  • Escape base engine is a  1.6 liter turbocharged in-line four cylinder with 178 horsepower, turning 0-60 in 9.3 seconds.  The Forester's smaller base engine has  170hp with a 2.5 liter four cylinder boxer engine, turning 0-60 in 8.5 seconds.
  • Escape's larger engine costs MPG, delivering 23 city and 32 hwy with front wheel drive.  Meanwhile the Forester with all wheel drive delivers 26 city, 32 hwy.  If you add All Wheel Drive to the Escape, they go down to 22 and 30 respectively.
  • Window visibility clearly favors Forester.  Forester is rated #1 for all vehicles in this category.  Escape has narrow windows in the back.
