The foundation for the next generation of Subaru vehicles is here. The Subaru Global Platform first came with the  2017 Impreza, and will be the cornerstone for all models by 2020.  Patriot Subaru checked it out:

Key point to start with -  Subaru will continue with its boxer engine and the symmetrical all-wheel drive, two key ingredients that makes Subaru, a Subaru.

The photo highlights how the platform extends from front to rear, a dynamice unit.  Using high-strength steel, the frame is designed to achieve the "world's highest level of collision safety even in 2025.   It is 70-100 percent stiffer,  improving the impact energy absorption by 40% over current Subaru models - which are already IIHS Top Safety Picks. The Platform lowers the center of gravity which will improve handling, going hand-in-hand with the low center of gravity of the boxer engine.  Better handling - reduces accidents.  Better handling - feels better to the driver.  Safer, and more fun!  By mounting the rear anti-roll bar to the body instead of the subframe, body roll is reduced 50% compared to other models.

Creature comforts - the improvements result in a quieter ride, with reductions in noise and vibration that comes from the improved straight-line stability.  Overall performance is enhanced.

Financial benefits to Subaru, and to the customer.  Currently, different Subaru models are built at different plants because the underpinnings of each car have inherent differences.  With the Global Platform, the modular effect means that several cars can be built at the same plant.  Production lines in Japan will be the same as in the U.S. , allowing greater flexibility in capacity.  A short time back, the demand for Foresters was so high, there was no ability to keep up.  With the new system, if the need arises, a production plant can quickly be adapted to produce what is needed with minimal restructuring.  Other benefits include being able to accommodate gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, full electrical powertrains, all within the same platform.  To the customer, this translates into keeping the cost of the vehicle down, and extremely price competitive in each class.

To paraphrase the words of Fuji Heavy Industries President Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, "The Subaru Global Platform lifts Subaru's automotive technology to new heights, and marks the next step in the evolution of 'Enjoyment and Peace of Mind,' the value that Subaru offers to its customers."

Looks like another strong move on the part of Subaru, building on success, pushing the bar higher.  Learn more about the Subaru Global Platform at Patriot Subaru!
