While the base price for the Legacy is a bit
more you're getting the All-Wheel Symmetrical Drive instead of a two
wheel drive. The Legacy has virtually the same gas mileage, larger
cabin space, and an extra air bag, with a healthy list of other comfort
features that come standard that the Camry does not have. They're both
great cars, but side-by-side, the advantage is with the Legacy.
• Let's start with the biggest difference. The Legacy has Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and the Camry is a front-wheel drive. When if comes to handling in the tough weather, or just hugging the road on a summer day, the Legacy is a clear winner.
• On the total MSRP- Legacy $24,815 and the Camry at $23,935. If you factor in that the Legacy has the All-Wheel Drive, plus a longer list of other standard equipment items, the Legacy offers a lot more for the money. Legacy provides active front seat head restraints, windshield wiper de-icer, heated seats, automatic climate control, leather wrap steering wheel, and Sirius XM, all standard, none of which are on the Camry.
• Both cars earned IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus recognition.
* MPG is comparable. Legacy is at 25/34 city to highway. Camry is 25/35. One would expect the Camry to be much higher, given that it is only a 2 wheel drive, so the advantage is really with the Legacy.
• Camry sets up with a 2.5 liter in-line engine, with a 6 speed automatic transmission. Legacy uses a boxer engine which has a lower center of gravity. It is a 2.5 liter, with continuously variable automatic transmission.
• Legacy provides 104.6 cubic feet interior space, compared to the Camry's 102.7. Legacy has the largest interior in the midsize sedan class.
• Stretch out a bit more in the Legacy, with 42.9 inches legroom, to 41.6 for Camry.
• Virtually equal in the trunk - Camry at 15.4 cubic feet, Legacy at 15.
There's more info if you need it at the Patriot Subaru Digital Showroom kiosk. Touch-Screen ease, excellent side-by-side comparisons.
