Thanks in part to aluminum body materials, the Forester boasts a lighter curb weight than the CR-V. The Forester is also taller and offers more headroom and a greater passenger volume. It has a tighter turning radius than the CR-V, as well, for more confidence around curves.


    

  • The CR-V is one inch wider, the Forester is two inches longer.
  • Forester has ground clearance of 8.7 inches, CR-V 6.8.   Height helps in snow.  Plus, Forester has lower center of gravity because of the boxer engine.
  • Inside, Forester has a bit  more headroom and legroom with 103 cubic feet for passengers, compared to CR-V with 102.
  • The Subaru STARLINK™ system can come equipped with such features as emergency assistance and remote access. The CR-V doesn't offer remote services or an emergency telematics system.
  • CR-V comes with a 2.4 liter in-line 4 cylinder engine 185hp.  Forester comes with the 2.5 liter four cylinder boxer engine - better balance, lower center of gravity, with 170hp.
  • Engine options - CR-V only comes with one engine, while the Forester offers a line-topping, potent turbocharged four-cylinder.
  • MPG is similar, both at 26 city.  CR-V says 33 Highway, Forester 32.  
  • Forester has a lineartronic continuously variable auto transmission.  CR-V a continuously variable auto transmission.
  • Both cars offer versions of pre-collision warning.  "Subaru Eyesight" and "Honda Sensing".  The Subaru uses 2 cameras instead of one, and is capable of bringing the vehicle to a complete stop.  Eyesight is optional on all Forester models,  but is only available on the most expensive Touring CR-V.
  •  Forester - 7 airbags.  CR-V 6.  Forester rates better on IIHS crash tests.
  •  Forester has wider and taller windows for greater visibility.  Forester ranks first among all cars for outward visibility.  
  •  The Forester moonroof is panoramic square, compared to a narrow rectangle on the CR-V.
  •  Base Forester is less expensive and better equipped with the All Weather Package//heated seats, mirrors, wipers at $27,145.   CR-V base at $27,500
